Memoirs of a Fort I -The Entrance
Posted by chakrapani (Hyderabad, India) on 8 October 2009 in Architecture.
This is the Main Entrance to the BHONGIR Fort at Bhongir , Andhra Pradesh India.
This fort dates back to the 11th century a.d when King Tribhuvana Vikramaditya IV had it built. This heavily fortified fort is built on a monolithic rock/hill at a height of 600m above sea level. The height of the hill is about 450m straight up above the ground level. The fort was considered invincible and impregnable by the invading armies. The ruins of the fort consist of citadels, stables, army quarters, dungeons , trap doors and an armoury. There are ponds with lotuses. The ponds are fed by rainwater and somehow , they are always full, even when there has been no rain for months .
More Pictures of the fort will follow in the coming few days.
Cheers !
