The Hands That Make Music..

My favorite piece of music
is the one we hear all the time
if we are quiet.

John Cage
American Composer and Author

Yesterday was one of the most memorable evenings of my life . I attended 'Samaagam'.A live musical concert performed by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra(Conductor :David Murphy) and the Indian 'sarod' virtuoso Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. The performance had David Murphy conduct compositions of Mozart and Beethoven followed by solo performance by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and then compositions of ustad performed by the orchestra in confluence with Ustad's sarod renditions. A fusion of hindustani composition and western classical performance.
The samaagam music had a mughal /persian flavour to it maybe because it is based on Hindustani classical music which was patronised by the mughal emperors of the Indian history. The sarod , actually has origins in persia/ afghanistan .
I had with me a fabulous person for company who appreciates such music just as little as I do ! ( just kidding). Its very important that your company has similar taste for the evening to be a whole package .!

Such music clears the mind of all junk ! It elevates one to a high pedestal of peace and concentration . Which, the the way, is occasionally interrupted by someone whispering, coughing, laughing , or a phone ringing followed by a loud Hello ! (!@#$@!#$@#!$) .So much for maintaining etiquette at formal musical concerts .Sigh !. Well, once the music frees you of the petulant matters of day to day life it brings in what i call emotional buoyancy. It make one concentrate better ,on something or someone special, or for that matter on the music itself. Its like a prayer.
Smooth and pious. Pure.
Looking forward to more concerts and concertos !
