The Stupa ..No Time to Stand and Stare

Posted by chakrapani (Hyderabad, India) on 1 April 2008 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

This is the the Lepakshi Emporium (used to be.. rather). Its situated on the TankBund road, on the banks of the lake Hussain Sagar in Hyderabad (6 th largest city of india and the capital of Andhra Pradesh state).

This emporium was used to exhibit the traditional and cultural handicrafts ,arts and artifacts associated with the state of Andhra Pradesh. It Also used to house a small little restaurant overlooking the lake. It is now abandoned for reasons unknown and left to weather the effects of time .

This edifice was constructed to resemble the ancient Buddhist stupa (a religious monument) at Amaravati. It still carries a lot of poise. It is strange that in spite of being a striking structure on the side of the most commuted road of the city, It failed to receive any visitors in the span of 3 and a half hours I spent with in and around it( minus the pigeons and ME )
Countless motorists just vroom by .. and the Stupa just stands there , with patience and peace !
